The Office of Research Affairs, at the University of California, San Diego, in support of the campus, multidisciplinary Organized Research Units (ORUs) is conducting an open search for various Specialists (non-tenured, Assistant, Associate or Full level) in various academic disciplines. At UC San Diego, Specialists are academic appointees who provide expertise in a specialized area, engage in professional activities, and University and/or public service, do not have formal teaching responsibilities, and normally work as a member of a research team lead by a Principal Investigator.
Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to the research enterprise of the University, and advancement in the series requires continuous and effective engagement in research activities of scholarly quality and significance in the defined area of expertise and specialization, and achievement and recognition in the professional and scientific community. Specialists may participate in University and/or public service depending upon funding source and the duties required by the job description for the particular position.
Required Qualification: The candidate for a title in this series must have earned a Master’s or its equivalent.
Preferred Qualification: Master's or equivalent experience, and commitment to independent research and funding, mentoring/training, university and community service, and to building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
