2026 SSILA Annual Meetings

New Orleans, Louisiana (January 8 to 11, 2026)
and Online (January 17 to 18, 2026)

The Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas (SSILA) has decided to hold its next annual winter meeting with two options:

  1. In-person jointly with the Linguistic Society of America (LSA) at the Marriott New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 8 to 11, 2026, and

  2. An auxiliary online meeting via Zoom on January 17 to 18, 2026.

Due to the unknowns currently associated with traveling to, from, and within the United States for many of our members, presenters and attendees who are unable to travel in person are encouraged to attend the online portion of the conference.

Registration for the 2026 in-person SSILA Annual Meeting is managed by the Linguistic Society of America. SSILA members who wish to participate in the in-person SSILA Annual Meeting must register and pay for registration for the LSA Meeting. All SSILA members receive the LSA member rate on their LSA registration, and there is complementary registration at LSA for Indigenous scholars.  Those wishing to register on-site for the in-person meeting will be expected to pay the full amount owed in order to receive a badge for entry to SSILA events.

We will continue to support Natives4Linguistics, CELP, and the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, and work to continue to make your work more visible to others.

SSILA encourages scholars to present on a wide range of topics centered on any aspect of Indigenous American languages.
